Art group “Gentle ladies”
Art group “Gentle ladies” (2008) consists of two founding members: Zhenya Lapteva and Sasha Artamonova (1987). The group uses performance, video and actionism in their artistic practice. The group’s mission is to study the feminine nature through the transformation of rituals. As a rule, the group reinterprets everyday and traditional rituals for a specific region. The majority of the group’s performances take place in a natural environment which plays an important role as an associate of the action. The group thinks that coming across such natural forces as water, ice, mud and fire allows to manifest the true femininity. The group took part in Russian and international art exhibitions and projects, including an International Festival of contemporary art “Interfest: FUSE” (Chernyakhovsk, 2008); exhibitions “A woman in contemporary art” (St.-Petersburg, 2009); “Black gold” (St.-Petersburg, 2010); “Marriages are made in heaven” (St.-Petersburg, 2011); “Enclave” (Warsaw, Kaliningrad, 2011); “Cinema: New Device” (Moscow, 2012); International Biennale of contemporary art in Pusan (Korea, 2012); exhibitions “Revolution online” (Helsinki, 2012); “The age of consent” (St.-Petersburg, 2013); “Made in Kaliningrad” (Klaipeda, 2013).
